Sydney Harbour Kayak's renting with Children Policy

Policy - Renting Kayaks or Canoes  with Children (June 2023)


Sea Kayaks

Sydney Harbour Kayaks are very happy to rent kayaks to adults paddling with children between 3 years and 17 years of age under the following conditions.
 

  • Children between 3 years and 5 years of age are able to be taken kayaking ONLY in the Mirage 600 Deluxe Double kayaks (with child seat) with TWO adults.

 

  • Children between 6 years and 13 years of age can paddle in any Double kayak with ONE other adult.

 

  • Children between 14 years and 17 years of age are able to paddle a single kayak or surf ski if there is an adult paddling with them. The adult MUST stay within 10 meters of this child at all times.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Double Canoe

Sydney Harbour Kayaks are very happy to rent a double canoe to two adults paddling with up to two children between 3 years and 10 years of age.

 

For children over 10 years of age, they can only be in a canoe with one adult. Depending on the conditions, the area that you can paddle the canoe will be tightly controlled and determined prior to renting.

The combined weight of all paddlers can not exceed 200kgs.
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

- General Information -
 

 

There MUST be ONE adult for every THREE children paddling in single kayaks or stand up paddle boards.

 

Children between 3 and 10 years of age will be required to wear a Rating ONE PFD (Life jacket).


If you are using your own PFD (Life jacket), then it must also be an approved Rating ONE PFD, in a good condition and be the correct fit to the child's height and weight.

An adult (over 18 years of age) needs to read and sign our Indemnity Form and read our Paddling with Kids Statement on behalf of the children in their care.

Stricter weather restrictions are enforced under this policy.

Every paddler MUST read the Sydney Harbour Kayaks Paddle Safe Paddle Smart guidelines prior to renting a kayak.
