Sydney Harbour Kayaks
- 4 Hour Kayak Eco Tour -
Middle Harbour

Sydney's Most Awarded Sea Kayaking Experience

For more than three decades, the Middle Harbour Eco Tour has been introducing visitors and locals alike to a side of Sydney that few people ever experience.

This is the tour that helped establish Sydney Harbour Kayaks as one of Australia's leading paddlesports and adventure tourism operators and remains our most popular and longest-running guided experience.

Just minutes from the city, you'll leave behind the noise, traffic and crowds and enter a world of secluded beaches, towering sandstone cliffs, pristine bushland and hidden waterways that feel a thousand miles away from urban Sydney.

Paddling aboard our stable double sea kayaks, you'll discover why Middle Harbour is regarded as one of Sydney's most spectacular natural environments.

Discover Sydney's Hidden Wilderness

The Middle Harbour Eco Tour takes you deep into the sheltered waterways bordering Garigal National Park, where nature quickly takes centre stage.

Along the journey, your experienced guide will share stories of the harbour's history, Aboriginal heritage, wildlife and environmental significance.

Depending on conditions and tides, highlights may include:

  • Exploring the spectacular mangrove forests of Scotts Creek, Sugarloaf Bay and Bantry Bay

  • Paddling beneath dramatic sandstone cliffs and bushland headlands

  • Discovering secluded beaches accessible only by water

  • Learning about the rich cultural and natural history of Sydney Harbour

  • Observing birdlife, marine life and the unique ecosystems of Middle Harbour

  • Experiencing the remarkable contrast between Sydney's urban landscape and its hidden natural environments

One moment you're surrounded by waterfront homes and marinas. The next, you're immersed in a tranquil wilderness where the sounds of the city seem a distant memory.

One of the highlights of the tour is the opportunity to explore the remarkable mangrove forests of Bantry Bay, Sugarloaf Bay and Scotts Creek.

These sheltered waterways form an important ecological nursery for Sydney Harbour, providing critical habitat for fish, crustaceans, birds and countless other marine species. Their tangled root systems help protect the harbour's biodiversity and support the health of the wider ecosystem.

Accessible only from the water, these quiet natural sanctuaries feel a world away from the city. As you glide silently beneath the mangrove canopy, the only sounds are often the splash of your paddle, the call of a bird overhead and the gentle movement of water beneath your kayak.

For many guests, this is the moment they truly appreciate how wild and untouched parts of Sydney Harbour remain.

Every Tour is Unique

The Middle Harbour Eco Tour follows the best route for the conditions on the day.

Our experienced guides carefully consider weather, tides, harbour traffic and the paddling ability of the group when selecting the final route. This allows us to provide the safest, most enjoyable and rewarding experience possible while showcasing the very best of Middle Harbour.

When tides allow, we often venture into the remarkable mangrove forests of Scotts Creek, Sugarloaf Bay and Bantry Bay. These sheltered waterways are among the ecological highlights of the tour and provide a rare opportunity to explore parts of Sydney Harbour that remain largely untouched and are accessible only by kayak.

These important mangrove environments serve as nurseries for countless fish and marine species and play a vital role in maintaining the health of Sydney Harbour's ecosystem. Gliding quietly beneath the mangrove canopy, with only the sound of paddle strokes breaking the silence, is an experience many guests describe as the highlight of their day.

As with any nature-based adventure, access to certain areas depends on the conditions at the time. While specific routes cannot be guaranteed, every tour is carefully planned to ensure guests experience the most spectacular and suitable parts of Middle Harbour on that particular day.
