During Vivid Sydney, Sydney Harbour Kayaks offers a unique Moonlight Sea Kayaking experience in Darling Harbour, placing you right on the water in the heart of the action. As darkness falls, the harbour transforms into a theatre of light, colour and movement. From your kayak you’ll have front-row views of the spectacular Laser Lightfall show over Cockle Bay, where powerful lasers sweep across the sky in choreographed waves of colour, building into a vibrant celestial display reflected across the harbour waters.

Paddling gently through Darling Harbour also reveals illuminated installations around the Australian National Maritime Museum, including the playful and imaginative works of Torres Strait Islander artist Brian Robinson. Above it all, the night sky comes alive during the Star-Bound Drone Show, where hundreds of synchronised drones form mesmerising shapes, patterns and cosmic scenes overhead in a breathtaking aerial display.

Our experienced sea-kayaking guides lead small groups through the calm evening waters, ensuring a safe and relaxed journey while sharing stories about the harbour and the incredible artworks surrounding you. As the lights dance across the skyline, their reflections ripple across the water’s surface, creating an atmosphere that feels immersive, peaceful and electric all at once.

On nights when weather and harbour conditions permit, the adventure may extend beyond Darling Harbour as we paddle out towards Balmain East, offering paddlers stunning views back across Sydney Harbour. From this unique vantage point you’ll see the Sydney Harbour Bridge illuminated in all its Vivid glory, creating an unforgettable moment as the city skyline glows across the water.

Please note that the Star-Bound Drone Show runs on Sunday to Wednesday evenings during Vivid Sydney, with performances at 7.30pm and 9.30pm, except Sunday 7 June when no drone show is scheduled. On these nights, paddlers can enjoy a truly unique vantage point beneath one of the festival’s most spectacular displays, watching the illuminated formations drift and transform across the Darling Harbour sky.

 

The sea kayaks that we will be paddling in are a Mirage Sea Kayaks Touring double - they are very stable and have a wonderful glide.

Please note:

This tour is NOT suitable for complete beginner paddlers, paddling experience is recommended.

 

Sydney Harbour Kayaks offer FREE Beginner Lessons every Saturday and Sunday at our Spit Bridge location. maybe get a kayaking lesson and get prepared for this wonderful experience.

Everyone will be grouped into double (2 person) kayaks. If there is an odd numbered tour, then the lead guide will determine the person that will paddle in the single kayak (generally the strongest paddler of the entire group).
