Sydney Harbour Kayaks - Sydney Harbour Outdoor Education Programs

Inspiring Students Through Adventure, Nature and Water Safety

Imagine a classroom where students paddle through mangrove forests, discover marine habitats, observe wildlife, learn practical water safety skills and develop confidence through real-world adventure.

For more than 30 years, Sydney Harbour Kayaks has been delivering safe, engaging and educational paddling experiences for schools across Sydney. Our programs combine outdoor education, environmental awareness, physical activity and student wellbeing in one of Australia's most spectacular natural classrooms.

Unlike many land-based environmental programs, students experience Sydney Harbour from the water itself. They explore secluded shorelines, investigate marine ecosystems, visit habitat restoration projects such as the Living Seawalls, and develop a genuine connection with the natural environment through direct participation.

Our experienced instructors are passionate paddlers, educators and water safety professionals who understand how to engage students of all ages and abilities.

Whether you are seeking a one-off excursion, a term sport program, a water safety initiative or a senior student wellbeing experience, Sydney Harbour Kayaks can create a program tailored specifically to your school's objectives.

With flexible programs for Years 3 to 12, comprehensive risk management systems and a proud place in the NSW Tourism Hall of Fame, we help schools transform Sydney Harbour into a classroom unlike any other.

Why Teachers Love Our Programs

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Sydney Harbour becomes a living classroom where students actively engage with the environment rather than simply reading about it. From mangrove ecosystems and marine habitats to wildlife observation and conservation initiatives, students gain a deeper understanding through direct experience.

Building Confidence Through Adventure

Many students arrive with little or no paddling experience. By the end of a session they are confidently working as a team, learning new skills and achieving goals they may not have thought possible.

Encouraging Teamwork and Communication

Success on the water depends on cooperation, communication and mutual support. Students naturally develop teamwork skills while working together in a fun and engaging environment.

Promoting Health and Wellbeing

Kayaking provides a healthy, low-impact physical activity that encourages students to disconnect from screens, spend time outdoors and enjoy the mental wellbeing benefits of being active in nature.

Creating Lifelong Connections with Nature

Students gain a unique perspective of Sydney Harbour that few people ever experience. Exploring hidden beaches, mangrove forests and marine environments often creates a lasting appreciation for the natural world and the importance of protecting it.

A Positive Experience for Every Student

Not every student excels on the sporting field or in the classroom. Outdoor experiences often provide opportunities for different students to shine, build confidence and discover new strengths in themselves.

Skills That Last Beyond the Excursion

Our programs develop practical water safety awareness, environmental understanding, resilience, confidence and decision-making skills that students can carry with them long after the day has finished.

What Teachers Are Saying

For many years, Sydney Harbour Kayaks has worked with primary and secondary schools across Sydney, delivering safe, engaging and professionally managed paddling programs.

Our goal is simple: to create meaningful outdoor experiences that build confidence, teamwork, environmental awareness and a lifelong appreciation of healthy outdoor recreation.

Here's what local teachers and schools have to say about their experiences with Sydney Harbour Kayaks:

An Absolute Highlight of Our School Sport Program

We have been bringing our students to Sydney Harbour Kayaks for Thursday school sport for the past few years, and it is consistently the highlight of the week.

The team at Sydney Harbour Kayaks runs an incredibly fun, engaging, and educational program. Our students aren't just getting active; they're learning paddling skills, water safety, and local history. A massive bonus is the local wildlife, the students are absolutely thrilled whenever we spot seals sunning themselves on the rocks or playing in the water.

From an administrative side, the company is great to work with. Their communication is seamless, and their organisation is flawless every single week. Most importantly, as educators, safety is our top priority, and their instructors are professional, attentive, and maintain the highest safety standards, giving us complete peace of mind.

If you are looking for a school sport activity that perfectly balances adventure, education, and top-tier organisation, we cannot recommend Sydney Harbour Kayaks highly enough.

Our Primary children have had a wonderful experience with Sydney Harbour Kayaks! Shannon and his team have been fantastic at engaging every child—keeping younger students involved while extending and challenging the older ones.

The sessions are fun, active, and engaging, giving children the chance to build independence and confidence. It has been especially rewarding to see the pride they feel in what they achieve each time. Thank you, Shannon, for creating such a positive and inclusive experience for our students!
